Couples Therapy
Couples therapy provides a safe, reassuring environment to explore the issues and feelings that can cause stress and dissatisfaction in a relationship. Dr. Gross is experienced in helping couples work through a wide variety of challenges, including:
- Communication problems
- Sexual difficulties
- Infidelity
- Stepfamily issues
- Conflicts about child rearing
- Anger
- Substance abuse
- Physical or mental conditions
- Financial disagreements and difficulties
- Unemployment
- Life transitions, such as mid career changes, parenthood, and retirement
Couples therapy can help partners learn to communicate more honestly and compassionately with each other, find more productive ways to resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and satisfaction with their relationship.
During the first few sessions, Dr. Gross will ask about the couple’s background and current situation, as well as the individual history of each partner. After the initial consultation period, she meets with the couple for regular sessions each week. She also assigns “homework” as needed, such as exercises to improve communication and intimacy, and offers recommended readings.
Couples experiencing sexual difficulties in their relationship may need specialized sex therapy.
